Specify the mineral strategy

Define the intended audience, water volume and use occasion before comparing mineral sources and levels. Capture the rationale for the proposed electrolyte profile. A competitor's label can reveal a market position, but it is not a substitute for an independently considered formulation brief.

Balance taste with the delivery format

Compare mineral forms alongside saltiness, acidity, sweetener choices and flavor direction. Set an agreed preparation method for sample reviews. A low-sugar concept, an unsweetened product and a flavored sports drink can require materially different sensory development.

Resolve the packaging economics

Evaluate serving weight, pack size, flow and filling requirements with potential manufacturers. Single-serve packaging changes both convenience and cost structure. Include the intended case count, launch channels and replenishment expectations when comparing a tub with a stick-pack program.

A USEFUL STARTING POINT

Bring these three decisions.

  1. Intended use and water volume
  2. Mineral, sweetness and sugar preferences
  3. Serving format and target retail position

PCG can scope concept definition, formulation and prototype work, sourcing, and the manufacturing handoff around your priorities. Deliverables, timing, testing and ownership terms are agreed for the project. Manufacturing is performed by the selected CDMO.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

Electrolyte formulation: your questions.

Can we develop a sugar-free electrolyte powder?

Yes. Establish what sugar-free means for the intended market, then develop the sensory brief and review labeling with the appropriate specialist. Sweetener selection is a formulation decision, not just a marketing choice.

Can one formula work in both a tub and sticks?

Possibly, but serving accuracy, powder handling and packaging requirements must be checked for both. The second format should have its own manufacturing review.

Can PCG add caffeine or other ingredients?

A combined concept can be scoped, but it changes the target user, product story and formulation questions. Start with the use occasion rather than adding ingredients by default.
