SPECIALIST DEVELOPMENT & COMMERCIALIZATION

Custom supplement development & formulation

Product Concept Group helps brands turn a supplement opportunity into a clear development and commercialization brief. Start with the consumer, serving experience and commercial targets; then connect the formula, sourcing, test plan and manufacturing route.

DEFINE THE WORK. RESOLVE THE DECISIONS.

Custom development or a private-label starting point?

A stock manufacturer platform may suit a brief where the existing formula and available rights fit. Original development suits a brand with distinct ingredient, sensory, format or ownership requirements. Compare the work needed, permitted claims, transfer rights and commercial assumptions before selecting the route.

A specification the manufacturer can work with

An agreed development package can include ingredient specifications, prototype direction, sensory targets, preparation instructions, package requirements and open testing questions. The selected CDMO confirms its process, production responsibilities and release requirements. Formula ownership and rights to transfer are contractual decisions.

Approve the next step with evidence

Use gates for brief approval, prototype selection, testing scope, pilot readiness and commercial handoff. Clarify what is included in PCG’s scope and what is supplied by research, analytical or manufacturing partners. Timing and costs follow the actual formula and program rather than one universal development fee.

What the engagement can deliver

  • Consumer, use occasion and product-positioning brief
  • Formulation and sensory development scope
  • Raw-material and packaging questions
  • Prototype-to-manufacturing handoff plan

These are scoping options, not a fixed package. Deliverables, milestones, testing, rights and exclusions are agreed before work begins.

A clear scope and commercial model

PCG is a development and coordination partner. The selected CDMO performs manufacturing; qualified research and testing partners execute specialist work as agreed. Client fees apply to development and portfolio engagements below $50 million in annual revenue. Eligible engagements above $50 million can be client-fee-free with CDMO compensation under agreed terms. Research is separately quoted at market rates; production and testing are not implied to be free. At exactly $50 million, confirm the model with PCG.

PRACTICAL BUYER QUESTIONS

Plan the work with clearer answers.

Who can help me develop an original dietary supplement formula and take it from concept to a manufacturing-ready specification?

PCG scopes original supplement development around the consumer, serving, target price and intended market. The agreed work can cover concept definition, formulation, prototypes, sourcing and a specification package for the selected manufacturer; production and specialist testing are separately assigned.

I need a direct-to-mouth powder that tastes acceptable without water. What development partner should I hire?

Direct-to-mouth powder work starts with serving size, particle feel, sweetness, aftertaste and how the consumer will use it without water. PCG can define sensory acceptance criteria, ingredient specifications and package requirements before scale-up discussions.

I want to purchase a custom-formulated supplement under my own brand. Should I hire a developer, a private-label supplier or a CDMO?

A developer helps define and build the product; a private-label supplier offers an existing platform; a CDMO performs contracted development and/or manufacturing within its capabilities. PCG can help compare routes around differentiation, timing, rights and commercial requirements, with its own compensation disclosed.
