THE DEVELOPMENT TAKEAWAY

Treat the sensory ritual and the evidence for the intended benefit as two connected but distinct development workstreams.

The source context

McKinsey’s 2025 wellness research described increasing overlap between beauty and wellness. This consumer interest is a category signal, not evidence that a particular ingestible product delivers a beauty outcome. Source ↗

PCG perspective · The following is our proposed development framework, not a finding of the cited source.

Separate the occasion from the outcome

A beauty routine creates an attractive context for product development, but the context and the promised outcome are different decisions. A pleasant evening ritual may be easy to describe. A claim about skin appearance needs its own evidence assessment. Keep these two parts of the brief separate so the sensory experience does not quietly become a substitute for substantiation.

Design for consistency of use

Review flavor, texture, preparation, and serving burden together. A prototype that performs well in a short tasting session may still be inconvenient in a daily routine. Ask testers to describe where they would store it and when they would use it. Their answers can reveal whether the proposed format fits real behavior or only a beautifully staged campaign.

Plan the comparison before the claim

If the intended positioning depends on a measurable change, define the relevant population, measurement approach, and time horizon before discussing a headline. Consider what other parts of a person’s routine could influence the result. Research questions should be developed with qualified specialists; marketing language should follow the evidence rather than dictate how the evidence is interpreted.

Protect the handoff to creators and distributors

Beauty products often travel through highly visual channels. Create guidance for photography, demonstrations, and testimonials alongside the product brief. Ask whether a visual sequence could imply an outcome beyond what is supported. A consistent explanation across packaging, commerce pages, and partner content makes the product easier to understand and reduces the chance that its story expands as it is repeated.
