Build healthy-aging concepts around a defined customer and a supportable product question rather than an expansive longevity promise.
The source context
Healthy aging was one of the opportunity areas in McKinsey’s 2025 wellness survey. Interest in the category does not establish the efficacy of a finished product or justify a broad longevity claim. Source ↗
PCG perspective · The following is our proposed development framework, not a finding of the cited source.
Choose an audience you can describe
Healthy aging can mean different things to a person building a new exercise routine, someone simplifying a supplement regimen, or a customer seeking a more convenient format. Those are different briefs. Define the audience through relevant needs and behavior rather than treating age alone as a complete segment. Ask what the customer is already doing and where the current experience falls short.
Make the intended outcome concrete
Avoid beginning with a promise so broad that no practical research program could evaluate it. Identify the product question and the kind of evidence that could answer it. Keep commercial aspirations separate from scientific conclusions. A concept can be commercially interesting while still requiring substantial technical work before the language used to describe it is justified.
Evaluate the whole routine
Adding another product creates a demand on time, attention, and money. Consider how the format fits alongside the customer’s existing routine. Packaging readability, preparation, portability, and serving clarity should be part of prototype evaluation. A sophisticated ingredient story does not compensate for an experience that customers find difficult to understand or maintain.
Create an evidence-to-language map
For each proposed message, record the evidence available, its relevance to the finished product, and the questions that remain. Assign a reviewer and a next action. This keeps development, research, and marketing working from the same view. The map should evolve as the formulation changes; it should not become a one-time document that survives long after its assumptions are obsolete.
