Connect strain identity to the rationale
Ask suppliers for strain-level identification and the evidence relevant to the intended product. NCCIH notes that different probiotic types can have different effects. The selection process should distinguish evidence about a particular strain from broad statements about an entire species or category.
Define viability at the right point
Clarify the intended count, storage conditions and point in shelf life to which the specification applies. Plan how viability will be measured in the finished formulation. Manufacturing inputs and finished-product performance are related questions, but they are not interchangeable specifications.
Develop the delivery experience
A direct-to-mouth stick, beverage powder and capsule each needs a separate use and manufacturing brief. Review moisture exposure, processing conditions, carrier ingredients and packaging with the selected partners. Plan compatibility work if the concept combines organisms with botanicals or other active ingredients.

A USEFUL STARTING POINT
Bring these three decisions.
- Intended consumer and product rationale
- Strain documentation and viability target
- Storage and package expectations
PCG can scope concept definition, formulation and prototype work, sourcing, and the manufacturing handoff around your priorities. Deliverables, timing, testing and ownership terms are agreed for the project. Manufacturing is performed by the selected CDMO.

BEFORE WE BEGIN
Probiotic formulation: your questions.
Can PCG develop a direct-to-mouth probiotic stick?
Yes. Scope the serving, taste, mouthfeel, organism specifications and pack requirements together. Selected team experience includes an award-winning probiotic stick-pack project.
Is a higher CFU number always the better brief?
No. Define the strain, evidence, serving and finished-product specification first. A larger number alone does not establish suitability for the intended benefit.
Can we combine prebiotics and probiotics?
The combination can be explored, with a defined rationale, tolerability considerations and compatibility plan. The finished blend still needs its own development and stability work.
